Vietnam exported more than 139 tonnes of rice during the first two weeks
of October, bringing total export volume to 4.9 million tonnes so far
this year.
The latest volume generated more than US$2.1 billion in value, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reports citing the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).
The price for rice in October is US$458.35 per tonne -- an increase from US$439.11 per tonne in September.
Without government interventions to increase temporary rice stocks, the price of rice remained high due to the large volume of rice exported to China via border gates.
Vietnam expects to produce 25.48 million tonnes of paddy for 2014, with 8.5 tonnes of rice for export.
